From 2013-2019, health career-minded students and those from underrepresented communities were invited to Kaiser Permanente’s Garfield Innovation Center for a day of hands-on activities that showcased careers in a variety of high-demand healthcare roles and settings.
In 2021, a revamped pandemic-friendly 2-hour curriculum and program was designed, structured as a hybrid of hands-on activities for the students in the classroom and virtual facilitation and education via the KP team.
Youth Career Day Facts
94% of student respondents agree/strongly agree that Youth Career Day gives them “a better understanding of careers that are needed in various healthcare settings.”
The Kaiser Permanente virtual field trip gives a lot more options to the health care career pathways that I did not know about. The 6 speakers who spoke about their experiences, and how they ended up with their careers, was really inspiring and made me realize that you don’t necessarily need to be set on a career path right away. Not only were their stories interesting but their advice was super helpful and inspiring. It really opened my eyes.
